All professional drivers of lorries over 3.5 Tonnes or passenger carrying vehicles with 9 or
more seats are required to complete Driver CPC Training.
The Driver CPC was introduced in 2008 for PCV drivers and 2009 for lorries, to support drivers to
retain the skills and knowledge required, to increase road safety and compliance in the
transport industry.
Drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years. Ideally this should be 7

To acquire Initial CPC, you must take Mod 2 online test and Mod 4 practical case studies test.

If you passed your car test before January 1997, this generally entitled you to drive 7.5 Tonne vehicles (Cat C1). Candidates with a C1 entitlement pre 9th September 2009 can attend periodic training on acquired rights, even though they may not have passed a vocational driving test.
